I’ve been working diligently on getting Work With Your Hands going for the last two or three years, and with focused attention for several months. It always seems like things should happen faster than they do. A few months, or two or three years, doesn’t seem that long really, but the concept has actually grown out of a lifetime desire to know God and His will.

The Bible says in Psalm 119:105 – Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

I am struck by the implication of a “lamp to my feet”. A lamp doesn’t really let you see that far down the road. It’s not a searchlight that will show the way long into the future. God’s word is a lamp. It will help you see the next few steps. It has been my experience that God wants to keep us in a position of trusting Him each day, every step of the way. He doesn’t want us to run ahead of Him, or lag behind Him. He wants us to walk right with Him, step by step, in His light.

And have you noticed? God never seems to be in a hurry. You’d think He has eternity to accomplish His purposes!

He seems to care much more about the slow, steady process of molding us into the image of Christ than He does about us accomplishing some big dream or goal. And that is true no matter how lofty or important we may think our goals are.

When I get frustrated at how long things take, I have to step back and remember:

Let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. James 1:4
